Stephen Hinerman, Interim Pastor

Stephen has been our Interim Minister since 2014. Stephen is originally from West Virginia, where he attended Marshall University. He received a Ph.D. in Communication from The Ohio State University, and has taught on the faculty of a number of schools, including spending the last 26 years at San Jose State University in Communication Studies. He also teaches Religious Studies at Las Positas College, teaching both World Religions and The History and Literature of the Bible.

Stephen attended Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, where he received a Masters of Divinity and is ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He has been trained by the Interim Ministry Network as a Certified Transitional Minister, and has served as the Interim Pastor at Lafayette Christian Church and as Interim Senior Pastor at First Congregational Church of San Jose (UCC). Stephen will be with us through the process of transition as we seek, ultimately, a settled pastor. You are welcome to contact him anytime with pastoral needs.

On a personal level, Stephen loves to play guitar, and to look at old vintage guitars. He has even tried his hand at songwriting a bit. And he enjoys going to concerts around the Bay Area and eating out at the amazing array of restaurants that we have available. In addition, he is a self-professed "Bible Nerd" who finds looking at the Bible's historical, cultural and social settings helps inform the texts, so that we can read it with a multiplicity of meanings.

Jacquie Hoffman, Minister to Progressive Christianity Group, The Redwoods

Jacquie Hoffman has been a long-time member of the Community Church, and serves as our Minster-in-Covenant with Mercy Housing, which offers affordable low-income housing programs and resident services. In addition, last year she became the church's staff liaison to the Progressive Christianity Group at The Redwoods community for seniors, and leads them in their exploration of Christianity in their daily lives on Thursdays of each week.

Barbara Strader Sitkin, Business Manager

Barbara Strader Sitkin has been with the Community Church for over 20 years.  A skillful business administrator, she keeps the church office running smoothly, making sure the accounts are balanced, processing payables and receivables, and producing the financial reports. She also handles all rental inquiries and contracts for the church.  As Executive Editor for Of Good Report, she produces our newsletter monthly, sending it out by email and producing a printed version for distribution at church.  If a wedding is booked at the church, Barbara, as our On-Site Coordinator at both the rehearsal and on the day of the ceremony, will facilitate your plans and assist with those small details to make sure that the day goes smoothly.  A Marin Master Gardener volunteer in her spare time, Barbara co-created our memorial courtyard garden.

Aaron Young, Facility Operations Manager

Since he was hired in 2005, Aaron Young has proved to be indispensable to the Community Church.  His skills go far beyond maintaining the building and grounds and keeping all systems—electrical, audio/visual, plumbing, etc.—functioning properly.  He is a fine carpenter and furniture builder who has remodeled spaces, built new pews, and created cabinets and tables that are functional and beautiful.   In 2006, Aaron took his skills to New Orleans on behalf of our church to help rebuild houses damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
